Description

This hot honey grilled chicken recipe transforms an ordinary dinner into a flavor-packed experience with a balance of sweet honey and spicy heat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs (900g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (for glaze)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (for glaze)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Fresh cilantro leaves (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Hot Honey Chicken Marinade by whisking together honey, hot sauce, olive oil, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, smoked paprika, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Marinate the chicken by placing it in the marinade, ensuring it is thoroughly coated, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 4 hours.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 375-400°F) and clean grill grates.
  4. Make the Hot Honey Glaze by combining honey, hot sauce, butter, red pepper flakes, and minced garlic in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until smooth.
  5. Grill the chicken for 6-8 minutes per side, checking with a meat thermometer for an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  6. Apply the glaze during the last 3-4 minutes of grilling for a caramelized finish.
  7. Remove chicken from the grill, let rest for 5 minutes, and garnish with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and cilantro before serving.

Notes

Pound thicker chicken pieces for even cooking and always use a meat thermometer for accuracy.
