Description

A simple crockpot whole chicken that cooks itself and tastes great, perfect for easy, hands-off cooking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken (about 45 pounds)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 lemon (halved)
  • Fresh herbs (such as thyme or rosemary)
  • 1 cup chicken broth (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken dry and season it generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
  2. Place the lemon halves and fresh herbs inside the cavity of the chicken.
  3. If using, pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the crockpot.
  4. Place the seasoned chicken in the crockpot, breast side up.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
  6. Once cooked, carefully remove the chicken from the crockpot and let it rest for a few minutes before carving.

Notes

Pat the chicken dry for better seasoning adherence and use a meat thermometer to ensure proper doneness.
