- 2 pounds chicken wings or drumettes (cut into pieces if using whole wings)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika

- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- Vegetable oil for deep frying (about 6 cups)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 green onions, finely chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- Pat the chicken wings dry and marinate them in a mixture of beaten eggs and buttermilk for at least 10 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black and cayenne pepper.
- Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and ginger. Simmer and add cornstarch mixed with water for thickening.
- Coat chicken pieces in the flour mixture and fry in batches for 8-10 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Drain the fried chicken on a wire rack and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Toss the warm chicken in the honey garlic sauce until well coated.
- Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
For an extra crispy texture, consider a double-dredging technique and ensure proper oil temperature throughout frying.
