Description

A delicious recipe for crispy chicken wings coated in a sweet and garlic-infused honey sauce, perfect for impressing guests or enjoying a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings or drumettes (cut into pieces if using whole wings)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying (about 6 cups)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry and marinate them in a mixture of beaten eggs and buttermilk for at least 10 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black and cayenne pepper.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, garlic, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and ginger. Simmer and add cornstarch mixed with water for thickening.
  5. Coat chicken pieces in the flour mixture and fry in batches for 8-10 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  6. Drain the fried chicken on a wire rack and let it rest for a few minutes.
  7. Toss the warm chicken in the honey garlic sauce until well coated.
  8. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For an extra crispy texture, consider a double-dredging technique and ensure proper oil temperature throughout frying.
