Description

A delightful sandwich combining savory chicken, sweet apples, and melty cheese, perfect for a quick lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of bread (sourdough, whole wheat, or white)
  • 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded or thinly sliced (about 6 ounces)
  • 1 medium crisp apple (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 46 slices of cheese (sharp cheddar, Gruyère, or Swiss cheese – about 4 ounces total)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened and divided
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or whole grain mustard (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons caramelized onions (optional)
  • Fresh arugula or spinach (optional)
  • 2 slices crispy bacon (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions

  1. Gather and prep all ingredients: slice apple, shred chicken, and grate cheese.
  2. Toss apple slices with honey and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  3. Spread butter on one side of each bread slice and cream cheese on the unbuttered side of two slices.
  4. Assemble the sandwich: Layer cheese, chicken, apple mixture, seasonings, optional ingredients, and top with remaining cheese and bread.
  5. Grill the sandwich over medium heat for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  6. Let the sandwiches rest for 1-2 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For best results, use different types of cheese for a complex flavor. Adjust cooking time for personal preference on doneness and meltiness.
