Description
A warm and simple chicken and dumplings recipe that makes a thick, comforting stew.

- 6 cups chicken broth
- 1 lb chicken breasts
- 2 celery ribs
- 1/2 onion
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1.25 tsp salt
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Boil the chicken in the chicken broth with the celery and onion.
- Lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes until the chicken cooks through.
- While the broth simmers, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and milk to make a soft dough.
- Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into strips or small pieces.
- Remove the chicken and vegetables from the broth. Discard the vegetables and keep the broth.
- Drop the dough strips into the simmering broth. Keep the broth at a gentle simmer.
- Simmer the dumplings gently for 20–30 minutes until they swell and the broth thickens.
- Shred the cooked chicken and return it to the pot. Stir and heat through.
- Taste and add salt or pepper if needed. Serve hot.
Notes
Serve hot with a sprinkle of fresh parsley or black pepper. This dish pairs well with plain bread or a light salad.
