Juicy, flavorful chicken drumsticks marinated and grilled to perfection for a smoky, sweet, and tangy BBQ experience.

- 3 pounds chicken drumsticks (12–16 pieces)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Pat the chicken drumsticks dry, score them, and season with salt and pepper; drizzle with olive oil.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients until smooth.
- Place drumsticks in a resealable bag, pour marinade over, seal, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- Preheat grill to medium heat and remove drumsticks to bring to room temperature.
- In a saucepan, combine barbecue sauce, honey, and butter over low heat until smooth.
- Remove drumsticks from marinade and grill on the cooler side for 15 mins, turning halfway.
- Move to hotter side of the grill for 10-15 mins, turning regularly until cooked through.
- Brush on BBQ glaze during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
- Let drumsticks rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
